New Park at Mull Croft/Wheatfield Close Opening October 2014

Mull Croft is a local 'pocket park' and play facility which is part of the Bellway development, Henley Grange. The park consists of a variety of play equipment including springs and a playpod for toddlers together with climbing and balancing equipment for older children, as well as new benches and planting.

Contractors have now installed the new play equipment and will be putting down the turf and preparing landscaping at the end of September 2014. The new park is due to be completed and open during October 2014.

Superfast Broadband The CSW Broadband project will bring improved broadband speeds across Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire – particularly in the rural areas. Funded by Central Government and Local Authority money the targets are to achieve 100% coverage at what is known as the Universal Service Commitment, meaning a minimum of 2Mbps up to 23 Mbps, and 91% coverage at superfast speeds (minimum 24Mbps). Work continues on identifying local priorities.  Conrad Parkes the BIG Local Rep is working with Safe and Sound in Area 13 local residents group to continue to identify local priorities.  Future community events are being planned. Welfare Benefits Referrals

Need advice or guidance on welfare benefits?  Solihull Council has produced a Referral Route Wheel.  There are various partners who can support local residents in financial difficulty.

Citizens Advice Solihull Bureau

They have case workers who can help Solihull residents with all aspects of welfare benefits including appeals, form filling and benefits calculations.  If you know someone who needs help with their finances, please contact the Advice Bureau on 0121 779 6707 or go to www.casb.org.uk for more information.

Bromford Support - Drop-ins

Personal Attainment and Training Programme 2014-2015 (PACT)

Objectives

  • More active, more often
  • Up skilling existing and new workforce in delivering high quality sporting opportunities
  • Widen access to sport among low participation groups
  • Support young people to access training through sport to develop personal/social skills and employment opportunities

Who is PACT for?

  • Young people agred 14-25 years
  • Sports club delivering sessions to 14-25 year olds
  • Professionals looking to up skill to meet the demands of their service ie: youth workers, Connexions, police, care workers

What PACT offers

Solihull Active in partnership with Streetgames and National Governing Bodies of Sport will provide workshops and courses to help coaches and potential coaches to get more people more active, more often.  Training leads to recognised awards and qualifications in rugby, tennis, badminton, basketball, netball, hockey, sport first aid, sports leadership and safeguarding.

Environmental Champions - would you like to be an Environmental Champion?

This programme has been set up to tackle the environmental issues that affect everyone in the Solihull Borough, including graffiti, littering, cutting back vegetation, pond clearing, painting play equipment, to name just a few. There are around 5,500 champions across the Borough who take part in activities or report issues in their local area.  Anyone can be an Environmental Champion; the only requirement is an interest in protecting and improving Solihull's environment and the quality of life of those living within it. Neighbourhood Watch - Are you interested in making your local community safer?

West Midlands Police operate a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme throughout the borough. Neighbourhood Watch exists to:    

  • Cut crime and the opportunities for crime and anti-social behaviour
  • Provide reassurance to local residents and reduce the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour 
  • Encourage neighbourliness and closer communities
  • Improve the quality of life for local residents and tenants

Excellence in the Community Centres

Four community rooms are available in the Smith's Wood area offering meeting spaces and kitchen facilities. They can be free to hire (subject to eligibility, availability and suitability) by not for profit community group or service, learning or training organisations. Excellence in the Community Centres are located at:

  • Smith's Wood Sports College, Windward Way
  • Smith's Wood Community Primary School, Burton's Way / Kingfisher Drive
  • St John the Baptist Roman Catholic School, Arran Way
  • Castle Bromwich Neighbourhood Nursery, Lawnswood Childcare, Auckland Drive
