Locals invited to get clued up at Kingshurst Fun & Info Day

(14th May 2006)

Solihull Council's 'RegenPoint' Community Regeneration team has organised a Fun & Info Day, to be held at Kingshurst Shopping Parade on Saturday 20th May. The event has been designed as a 'one-stop-shop', drawing together 15 local service providers in one central location to inform Kingshurst residents of all ages about the diverse range of activities that take place in their area.

This latest community event in North Solihull follows on from February's highly successful Fun & Info Day, held at Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre. Being held between 11am – 2.30pm, highlights of the Kingshurst Fun & Info Day include competitions, balloons and freebies.

Organisations that will have stalls set up for the one-day roadshow event include the Solihull Lifelong Learning Partnership, Kingshurst Children's Centre, Access to Employment, Trading Standards, West Midlands Planning Aid, as well as the Regenerating North Solihull team, which is delivering the £1.8bn, 15 year investment programme in North Solihull.

Ann Hurst, Community Regeneration Manager of RegenPoint in Smith's Wood, explained why Kingshurst locals should make sure they pay a visit to the Shopping Parade on 20th May:

"We get a lot of enquiries from people living in North Solihull who want to find out how best to access local services, are keen to learn new skills, or are interested in participating in community-based activities. By bringing 15 locally-based organisations to the Kingshurst Shopping Parade this Saturday, we can act as a one-stop-shop for the community to answer their questions, inform them about new activities and services on offer in the area, whilst combining it with interactive fun and giveaways to draw in and entertain the crowds.

"The date of 20th May has been chosen for the Kingshurst Fun & Info Day because residents of Kingshurst and Babbs Mill will have recently received the latest set of Neighbourhood Planning material regarding the Regenerating North Solihull programme. A number of people from the North Solihull Partnership will be on hand from 11am – 2.30pm to answer any questions residents may have regarding the proposed improvements to their area.

"We believe an interactive event such as a Fun & Info Day provides a really welcoming setting for local people to find out more about the regeneration programme, and potentially sign up to participate in some of the learning, employment or community based projects that take place in the area, so we are hoping to see a high level of attendance and participation."

The Kingshurst Fun & Info Day also coincides with the first day of Adult Learners' Week, which is a Borough-wide initiative being organised by the Solihull Lifelong Learning Partnership. Over 30 activity sessions are taking place from 20th to 26th May at Libraries throughout Solihull to give adults of all ages a taste of the range of regular, free courses on offer in their local area. An Adult Learners' Week Fun & Info Day is also being held in Mell Square on 20th May, between 11am – 3pm.

Sessions taking place in North Solihull at Chelmsley Wood and Kingshurst Libraries cover topics such as bringing stories to life for your child under five, make the first steps to using the Internet and e-mail, and how to trace your family tree.
