Funding for New Health Centre at Smith's Wood Agreed

Funding for a new GP surgery in Smith's Wood has been approved.  NHS England have agreed to pay for the new premises which will be built opposite the new retail and office space currently being built at Smith's Wood Village Centre.  A new primary school, Smith's Wood Community Primary, has been completed as part of the scheme and the new high street connecting Auckland Drive and Windward Way through to Kingfisher Drive is due to open in Spring 2014.

Solihull Council, as part of The North Solihull Partnership and Caroline Spelman, MP have been working hard behind the scenes together with Dr Anand Chitnis, Chairman of the Clinical Commissioning Group to make sure that the plans come to fruition.  Caroline said she was delighted with the news:

"This is a really significant decision for the community, which will go a long way to ensuring that they have proper access to vital healthcare services".

Councillor Bob Sleigh also welcomed the news:

"NHS England's decision to provide the funding for this service shows its commitment to this regeneration scheme".

The North Solihull regeneration project has been set up to transform the three wards of Smith's Wood, Chelmsley Wood and Kingshurst & Fordbridge.
